An Urban Voter’s Manifesto
One of our friends, Atanu Dey, has put together this manifesto for Middle India. We believe it is something we, Friends of BJP, should champion. What do you think?
Dear Political Parties:
We are urban Indians and we number around 400 million. Our aspirations are principally related to working hard for a living, caring for our families, educating our children, and being good and responsible citizens.
As an urban Indian, I will vote for a party that promotes the values that matter to my country, my family, and me.
If and only if you convince me that your party shares the concerns and values that we urban Indians have, will I vote for your party.
Here are the issues that matter to me:
1. Economic freedom.
- I want a government which generally leaves us alone. I don’t want a government that interferes in every aspect of our economic lives.
- I want a government that does not excessively tax my hard-earned money to fund wasteful expenditures.
- By chaining the economy, the government controls it to profit from it at the expense of the citizens. I want the government to liberalize the economy.
2. Personal freedom.
- I want a government that respects me as a citizen and not as a member of some religious, caste, linguistic, or vote bank group. I don’t discriminate against others, and I don’t want to be discriminated against. I want a government that does not dictate to me how I should live my life.
3. Education matters.
- I want my children to be educated. Government control of the education sector has crippled the system to the point that only the extremely wealthy can afford decent schooling I want the government to liberalize the education sector and open it up to the private sector so that the supply of educational opportunity increases. I want a good education for my children because it is the only guarantee of success in an intensely competitive globalized world of today and the future.
4. Good governance.
- I see unimaginable corruption at all levels of government. Criminals routinely contest and win elections. I will not tolerate the steady criminal influence on politics. I will reject all parties that put up hardened and/or convicted criminals as their candidates.
- I want the government to stick to the core functions and do them well. Primarily, I want the government to be responsible for internal security and I will hold the government accountable for the any lapses in security.
That’s all. I am not interested in GDP growth projections, on how by 2014 or whenever what is going to happen or not. I am not interested in empty promises about how India will become this or that superpower. I am quite capable of working hard and creating my own destiny.
I just want that the government do its job and I will do my bit. But I will not vote for any party that does not share my values and my concerns.

Spot on .. Mininmalist government, disband useless taxation policies, scrap whatever is ledt of the licence-quota raj. This boosts expenditure.. thus improving financial liquidity in our economy, encourages entepreuners, & essentially kicks out what the congress stands for …. nehruvian socialism
sometimes, I think, these above factors coupled with the opposition of minority -appeasement, is the only differenc between the BJP &* congress
I want higher medical education to be de casteised unreserved! I know i wont be heard but this one decision can garner you unimaginable support!
what about reservations? when are u going to do away with it
I want to get a bit more specific
- Fundamental reforms are needed to make all arms of government and establishment accountable, efficient and answerable.
- Small government with ascent to private enterprise, less government interference but strong oversight
- Focus on infrastructure development with futuristic outlook. Development projects must not just aim at near term needs and contingency reprieve but percolate every part of the country to make lives of all citizen comfortable and lay foundation for sustainable growth
- Foster strong community service culture (leverage RSS model) to make people active participant and stakeholder in the development of the nation
- Do not tolerate any dishonesty in public office, to begin with set an example by giving nominations to clean people who can enthuse confidence and faith in the establishment. Do not compromise on ethics for short term political gains, exhibit it by not allowing any person with questionable character and past any public office
- Do away with useless govt agencies which waste take payers money and have become instrument of doling favor to supporters
- Alway answer the taxpayers how their taxes are being used by the government. Before announcing any seemingly populist scheme make sure that it has long term social payoffs and not short term political gains
- Make internal security your top priority. Ensure that laws and security apparatus are many steps ahead of terrorists. Embark on pragmatic but no-nonsense anti terror strategy. Do not shy away from acting to appease some sections
- Judicial reforms to make laws more current, meaningful and effective in dealing with the current and emerging environment
- Seek participation of eminent citizens and not just honor them by giving some symbolic awards
- Every key appointment that your govt makes must pass through a very comprehensive test too ensure you appoint right people in right position

For last 5 yrs there has been a India hype where India was placed alongside China in world’s cross hair and was lauded as the next big power. The sad part is that many in India also got blindsided by this euphoria and ignored some fundamental aspects that contribute to growth of a nation (economically as well as socially). Entrepreneurs started believing or at least posed as they believe that governance was not that important and India Inc, can fuel GDP growth and sustain it even as people’s representatives in parliament are working to pull the rug from under their feet.
They underestimated the nuisance value of people like Prakash Karat and Arjun Singh and ambivalence of Manmohan Singh and the murky political landscape in all the states, and just assumed that things will get sorted out in evolutionary manner. Everyone believed that just as Indian enterprises transformed and evolved owing to effects of globalization, Indian politicians too will evolve into better statesmen or at least human beings as we ride the growth wave.
Unfortunately this evolutionary cleansing It did not happen and today we are faced with a heightened security threat from homegrown and international terror groups and reduced GDP/Industrial growth.
To create a sustainable economic model and a secure society there needs to be a vision and ability to articulate and assess opportunities and threats and act in the interest of nation, which can only happen when people governing the nation have some basic skills and attributes. It is highly unlikely that people who have bloated their assets by being career politicians with a dirty track record of divisiveness and criminality will transform overnight into statesmen and visionaries, at best they can become pretenders like Lalu (successfully). [Interestingly Lalu has been credited with turnaround in Indian Railways and have been on whirlwind lecture tours in B schools giving lessons in management, no one seem to question why same Lalu pushed Bihar in being a derelict state where there is no power, no roads, no electricity, rampant corruption, high crime rate in 15 yrs he ruled the state. The simple answer is that he always focused on Bihar as primary arena and largely ignored the Indian Railways, where seeds of transformation was sowed by his predecessor and McKinsey was already in helping the executives there. Moreover people fawning over him forget that he was actually sent to jail for shamelessly looting money from state exchequer and later resorting to criminal bullying when order was passed to arrest him and send him to jail. He bartered his freedom and exoneration from all his crimes for support to the current government]
India sorely lack good, let alone excellent politicians and is unlikely to see any major change as the source does not have stock of this kind of inventory. The process of becoming an MP or legislator itself ensures that most corrupt and criminals climb up faster and better than anyone with honest intentions and skills. This stems from the way local self governing bodies are elected where people whose life is affected most don’t give a heck as to who is elected and how, as they consider themselves above such slimy process. The other supply source is the family and relative inc., where progeny jump the ladder owing to family connections, where you may not be ridden with a criminal (if you are lucky) but certainly with and incompetent fool with no ability to lead and inspire. Indian middle class, companies and the critics of the governance hardly make an effort to invest in alternative source and unless they take an initiative to farm and nurture statesmen we will continue to have unpredictable and crappy politicians. So do not wonder when the GDP growth slows and when we are attacked by terrorists, since we have created a conducive ambiance for them.
1) Stop Corruption.Appoint non Corrupt people on the top job, rest everything will fall in place.
2) Make a universal Identity Card for everybody from age 18, for EVERY person.
3) Income Tax collection should be collected 5 or 10 % of the Income, its hard earned money. After age of 25 Income Tax should be collected from literally every earning person. If any person is unemployed he should prove attaching testimonials of Local Police Inspector or a Judge. He should pay at least Rs. 100 per month as Income Tax as even he uses the facilities of Municipal Corporation like, Roads, Street Lights. If the Tax Collection is 10 % then all people will pay as it won’t be a big amount,this way Funds will also get collected in the Government Treasury. It is a very different kind of thinking but if implemented will help a lot as everybody will try to get employed to pay that Rs. 100. this way EVERYBODY will come in the Tax Net.
3) Show in Theatres small Documentries showing a) The importance of Family Planning, b) The Ill-effects of any kind of RESERVATION, c) The Ill-effects of CORRUPTION & d) The importance of Literacy.
4) Amend the Constitution wherever necesary, the British made holiday for Courts in May for their convenience as they couldn’t bear the Summer heat, so many Cases are pending in the Courts, this should be changed. Timings can be changed as per respective Climatic conditions like how School timings are changed in Summer but Courts should run throughout the year, also Fine for entering a One-Way is Rs. 50 since ages, that should be fixed according to the present times & it should go on increasing every year or once in 3 years.
5) Try to inculcate a nice work culture generally among people, if observed the Class 4 people don’t want to work hard, they wan’t everything easy ex. a Waiter in a Hotel, a salesman in a Retail Shop, a Farm labourer, a Construction site labourer, Domestic servants etc. Their Morality has reduced seeing CORRUPT Politicians & CORRUPT Bureaucrats, people in general. This has to change. They should value work, they should treat Owner’s Profit & Loss as that of own. Accordingly owners also will treat them well.

यह मैं नहीं कह रहा हूँ मीडिया कह रही है .मीडिया की ख़बरों पर यदि भरोसा करें तो कांग्रेस भारत भर के समलैंगिकों के साथ नरम दिखना चाहती है .वैसी भी देश को नुक्सान पहुँचने हरेक तबकों के साथ कांग्रेस नरम ही दिखती आयी है .इस कड़ी में अब भारत भर के विशेषकर बड़े के शहरों समलैंगिक भी जुड़ गए हैं .
मनुष्य आदि काल से घोर संघर्ष और अपने कटु अनुभव के बाद आज सभ्य हो पाया है .मनुष्य ने उन सभी चीजों और अप्राकृतिक व्यवहारों और आदतों पर लगाम लगाया और मर्यादाएं बनायीं जो मानव समाज को नुक्सान पहुंचाते सकती थीं .भारत का मानव इतिहास ५००० हज़ार साल पुराना नहीं बल्कि उससे भी ज्यादा है .शायद लाखो वर्ष पुराना .इसलिए भारत का मानव समाज उन आदतों व्यवहारों की आज्ञा नहीं देता जो समाज के लिए घातक हो .लेकिन पश्चिम की अंधी दौड़ में आज का समाज बहक रहा है और उन तमाम चीजों और संस्कृति को अपना रहा है जो समाज के लिए नुकसानदायक है .समलैंगिकता का समर्थन करने वाले हमारे देश में पश्चिम मानसिकता से पीड़ित कुछ मीडिया वर्ग के लोग भी हैं जो इसको बढावा दे रहे हैं NDTV उसमे प्रमुख है .जो भारतीय संस्कृति का शत्रु है और हमेशा समलैंगिकों के समर्थन में कुछ न कुछ कहता आया है . कांग्रेस भी उसी का अनुशरण करती आयी है .कल को कांग्रेस समलैंगिको के समर्थन में उसके विरूद्व बने कानून को नरम कर दे और समलैंगिक को अपराध की श्रेणी से हटा दे तो आश्चर्य नहीं क्योंकि एक और वोट बैंक कांग्रेस का बन सकता है —समलैंगिकों का वोट बैंक .यदि कांग्रेस के किसी रैली में कांग्रेस का झंडा उठाये और सोनिया गाँधी के नारे लगते हुवे समलैंगिक मिल जाये तो कोई आश्चर्य न करियेगा .शायद अब एक नया गुट और समर्थक “समलैंगिक कांग्रेस” का बन जाये .

यह मैं नहीं कह रहा हूँ मीडिया कह रही है .मीडिया की ख़बरों पर यदि भरोसा करें तो कांग्रेस भारत भर के समलैंगिकों के साथ नरम दिखना चाहती है .वैसी भी देश को नुक्सान पहुंचाने वाले हरेक तबकों के साथ कांग्रेस नरम ही दिखती आयी है .इस कड़ी में अब भारत भर के विशेषकर बड़े शहरों के समलैंगिक भी जुड़ गए हैं .

Krishna jee.. aap zara samjhayenge, ki samlaingik log, samaj ke liye ghatak kyon hain.. aur samlaingikta kya sirf paschim desh ki paidaish hai.. aur kya aapne bharat ki sanskriti ka patent register kar rakha hai.. yeh samlaingiko ka nahi, balki manav adhikar ka sawaal hai..
मानव अधिकार ?…….हा …..हा….हा…हा….! ! ! बहस मैं नहीं करना चाहूँगा क्योंकि इसका अंत नहीं है . संक्षेप में मैं तो यही कहूँगा की बिमारी का इलाज़ होना चाहिए उसे मान्यता देना अपने कर्त्तव्य से भागना है .

TO THE BJP’S TOP MANAGEMENT….DEVELOP YOUR OWN MEDIA POWER SOON OR THE BJP HAS NO FUTURE….SERIOUSLY!!!!
I am a sincere sympathizer of the BJP, hence this negative tone in my comments. And I am sorry but there is no other way to digest this bitter pill.
BJP’s media management team should either be fired or revamped immediately. In all these years, the party has yet to start or develop a high-reach and influential pro-BJP television channel or newspaper (except the tiny Daily Pioneer) among other media vehicles, whether it’s in India or outside.
I myself have tried to get in touch with BJP’s media cell a few times on my various trips to India within the past three years, but with no success. The few individuals that I did manage to speak to came across as typical Indian government employees; IGNORANT, UNCONCERNED and UNRESPONSIVE.
The party management obviously doesn’t seem to understand the importance of media, communications and networking for political and national success.
Are the folks running the media cell friends of the BJP? I believe that this is a very serious issue that has cost the BJP many national and state elections so far. It’s image within India and outside has taken a beating time and again inspite of it’s good intentions.
TO THE BJP….Firstly, please develop or redevelop a proper think-tank before it’s too late. And when I say THINK-TANK, I mean a PROPER THINK-TANK, not an apology for a think-tank.
Secondly, please CHANNELIZE all this pro-BJP energy coming in from various quarters systematically and sensibly; else, this ENTIRE “Friends of BJP” exercise will be in vain and become the butt of jokes in the media like “India Shining” did. I personally believe in the sincerity and potential of “Friends of BJP”, and hence would not want this to happen. Also because failure is not an option.
THE BOTTOMLINE SUGGESTION WITH RESPECT TO DEVELOPING CLOUT WITHIN THE MEDIA — “KARO YA MARO”. AND IT’S NOW OR NEVER.

Extremely pleased to see BJP continually using online media for promoting itself.
But why are you getting into mudslinging in this manner.I doubt the youth that you’re targetting with a YOUTHFUL PM Candidate, who is 81yrs old and other young leaders who are all above 60 themselves.. will lik the way you’re going about it. Same applies to a perennially ill PM and his younger party.
