Reinventing the BJP

N Vittal asks in the Mumbai Mirror: “Can the BJP do what the New Labour did in the UK under the leadership of Tony Blair and what Obama did for the Democratic Party in the United States?”

The BJP must re-brand itself as the party of the youth and the future. It must focus on the issues that concern the youth – productive employment and projecting a positive message of hope.

Good governance with a focus on (a) the rule of law (b) zero tolerance to corruption (c) encouraging productivity in every sector and (d) providing opportunity to every citizen and to realise that his full potential must be the leitmotif of all the policies pursued by the party.

Reinventing a party takes time but a systematic effort initiated now may help BJP emerge as India’s version of the New Labour or Obama’s Democratic Party.

Obama is yet to deliver, he has spoken well so far. Too early to take him as a role model except that he comes from the black community.

But agree that the BJP should decide quick what is the uniqueness of the party which will drive people to see the value, identfy and associate themselves with it.

Young or old just let us not worry. We look for a good “story” to vote for.

I agree completely, but to deliver the promise BJP needs a leader who can connect to youth and inspire change. Current crop is out of sync and resemble too closely with career politicians of Congress.

Modi is an obvious leader who can take on the mantle

Ashish , Modi is a good choice. However, the Godhra baggage may haunt him if he leads the party. Also, let the SIT investigation complete and the BJP can plan some thing to take on the congress and the courts and the SIT reports.

BJP never learns. The BJP spokespersons are again appearing in the english news channels just to be put on the mat by Barkha Dutt, Arnab Goswami and Rajdeep Sardesai in their respective channels NDTV, Times Now and CNN IBN.

These fools will never learn. They dont deserve to govern India if they are so eager to dump all self pride and are just fond of showing their stupid faces on tv screens.

If BJP cannot boycott these pro-congress tv channels then just dont blame the voter if they dont vote BJP.

We dont want to waste our vote on some bunch of idiots who have lost all self pride and courage to fight these english media houses working for congress.

Anshuman, I am also puzzled to see the BJP leaders coming on English channels and becoming rediculed by the anchors. Ravi Shanker Prasad has been humiliated many a times on NDTV and also on CNN-IBN and wonder why he still comes on these channels. What is the BJP central leadership doing to prevent bad image for BJP ?.

  6. Destroy Media on July 2nd, 2009 9:30 pm

I love Michael Jackson and I love Narendra Modi & the BJP. The media has killed Jackson and is trying to destory Modi and the BJP.

We need to destroy the media before it’s too late.

The following are some of the suggestions which BJP can take:

    1) Stick to your roots:

May Hindutva should be projected better. Take for example “Ban on Cow slaugthers”. Every BJP MP and MLA can estalish a Go_shala and tell to whole of India they are pretty serious about their old but core issues. These Go-Shala can be unique selling point over a period of time to plan for nation wide “Ban on Cow slaugthers”. I think people in Inida today think that BJP is taking Hindutva as a election issue and not as a core issue to which they live up every single day. Let us not forget Hindutva brought BJP from 2 to three digit tally in last 15 years.

    2) Development focus:

All round state development should be the core mantra for all BJP ruled state. Focus on renewable energy in every village ( Tamilnadu is today the No:1 in Wind energy and why can’t every BJP ruled state cross Tamil nadu in this aspect; Focus on Rural as well as urban road and infrastructure), Focus on good revencue collection and utilization, Big ticket item which every BJP state government can focus and which is lacking in India is medical issurance. Today every employee working in decent comapnies have medical insurance cover for minimum Rs 1,00,000 and the companies pay not more than Rs 5,000 yearly for the same why cannot BJP government bring this program for all citizen in a state instead of giving ration at Rs 2/kg etc.

    3) Expand horizontal

tamil nadu, kerala, Andra, west bengal and esrtwhile BJP strong hold UP together send 250 odd MP and BJP has 10 MPs from these places. Any kid with some logical and analytical brain will say that this is the biggest gap which should be looked at as opportunity and exploited. If BJP can gain 100 for these seats and reatin their present seats they can form government on their own:

3a) In Tamil nadu people are looking for new partys other than DMK and ADMK. BJP leaders in the state and at national level should take up issues in the state and gain prominence.

3b) In Kerala communist are on the decline and there is a opportunity to gain seats

3c) Andhra and West bengal it may be more difficult but core team from BJP should spend time and energy in improving tally here

3d) UP should also have good gains if the SP and BSP decline are capitalized

Overall BJP top leadership should depute big leaders to go and get stationed in these places for a period of next 5 years and guide the local party leaders to raise local issues and fight for peoples cause. All BJP top leaders who feel are left out have bigger roles to play instead of just focusing on top slots in parliament.
