Prayer of ‘Aam Aadmi’

by Sudipto Das

You’ll Protect Me in Distress, That’s Not My Prayer -
I Shouldn’t Lack Courage in Distress.
You’ll Rescue Me, That’s Not My Prayer -
I Should Have the Strength to Swim.

That’s what Rabindranath Tagore had prayed for in Gitanjali. It’s a prayer that each of us perhaps sings in our hearts. There’s nothing like sailing through a storm all with my own courage and zeal. There’s nothing like keeping my head high without bowing in front of anyone for mercy or help. There’s nothing like having faith in my own self and being confident. What I want is just the courage and the zeal and the confidence in myself. That’s what I pray for to the Almighty.

Well, that’s all what I want for me and my countrymen.  I want my country to be a land of courageous people Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls.

But alas, my government doesn’t allow us to hold our head high. It doesn’t want to see us standing on our own feet. It wants to cripple our self confidence and make them believe that the only way for them to survive is to wait for mercies thrown out to us. We’re never provided with the right amenities that can help us procure our own food and shelter. Instead, we’re converted into beggars at the hands of the governments. We’re crippled to the extent that we can do nothing than wait for the free food and shelter thrown on us.

My government has broken my land into innumerable fragments of castes and creeds. The land no longer belongs to Indians of Bharatiyas or Hindustanis. Fragments of it belongs to the Upper Class, some belong to the Dalits, some to the Scheduled Tribes and some to Scheduled Castes, some to Hindus, some to Muslim, some to Jats, some to Yadavs, some to Bengalis, some to Dravidians, some to North Indians, some to South Indians…….. There are reservations for each of these fragments.

Tagore would be pulling his beards apart in heaven to see this. He would be scratching off his own lines which he had written some hundred years ago:

No one knows whence and at whose call
Come pouring endless inundation of men
Rushing madly along to lose themselves
In this vast sea of humanity that is
India.
Aryans and Non-Aryans, Dravidians and Chinese
Scythians, Huns, Pathans and Mogols -
All are mixed, merged and lost in one body.

Today the main effort of the government is to tear apart this body and segregate the Aryans and Non-Aryans, Dravidians, Scynthians, Huns and the Mongols and restrict them to reserved ghettos.

Let’s raise our voice and say, No, we don’t need rice at Rs 3/kg, but we need the right education, health care and infrastructure so that we can earn enough to buy rice at the normal rate. We don’t want to live on the mercy of the government, but with the cooperation of the government. We don’t want to be crippled by the government, but we want to stand on our own and make our own living.

Let’s raise our voice and say, No we don’t need reservation. We all are one and we’ll stay happily at the same place and earn our position with our own credentials.

The government may not listen to our voice. Because if there is no poor, if everyone has self esteem then who will it fool in the name of ‘Aam Aadmi’?

After a long long gap u r makin sense Mr.stupidto. The schemes like the NREGA where they dig up a hole today and close it tomm’w are making things worse for the country in the long run. NREGA is preventin people from migratin to the cities which obviously is not a good a thing, with more than one bln in population we have to use all that manpower potential to the fullest which is possible by rapid urbanisation & not by mahatma’s romantic imagination of empowering the villages. Again UPA chose to print currency instead of building infrastructure, they just want to win elections and by 2020 India will have branches of dharavi spread in b’lore, delhi, chennai etc etc.,

I too perfectly agree. Sudipto Das “Rocks” in this article. Thank god he has not come up with a reaction like what our “Bought Out” Media and “Sold Out” Industry have come up with!! There is no incentive to invest or spend. Just freebies, subsidies and “aam aadmi” language. Without beating around the bus, it is a case of simply putting some money into the account of potential voters and potential funders for the party in elections!!

Hope this is the begining of many more of this kind!! Also it would be the right time to advise BJP to now completely own the planks of Liberalization and Free Markets, of course if they are interested in and confident of getting it across to the people successfully!!

AGAIN BJP SPOKESPERSON NALIN KOHLI WAS CALLED IN BY ARNAB GOSWAMI TO HIS CHANNEL TIMES NOW FOR A DEBATE IN NEWSHOUR ON VARUN GANDHI’S SECURITY ISSUE DEBATE. HE WAS FIRED WITH QUESTIONS BY ARNAB HOLDING THE CONGRESS PARTY BRIEF AS USUAL AND NALIN WAS NEVER ALLOWED TO ANSWER TO THE QUESTIONS. EXTENDED TIME WAS GIVEN TO AVISHEK MANU SINGHVI AND SARCASTIC VINOD MEHTA AS ISSUES WERE BOUNCED BACK TO THEM DENYING NALIN TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.

I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND WHY BJP SPOKESPERSONS APPEAR IN SUCH SHOWS AND ACT TIMID?

  4. Anshuman on July 8th, 2009 1:37 am

CANT THE BJP MEDIA CELL JUST BOYCOTT THESE ENGLISH NEWS CHANNELS AND REJECT ANY INVITATION FOR APPEARING IN THEIR SHOWS AND DEBATES?

DO BJP LACK GUTS? I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND TO GO ON DIGESTING SUCH CONTINUOUS INSULT AND HUMILIATION TO THE PARTY. WHY ARE THEY ALLOWING IT?

    @ Anshuman

Congress party does not require any spokepersons.Abhishek Singhvi,Jayanti Natrajan and Tiwari should take some rest because their role has been taken over by Arnab Goswami,Rajdeep Sardesai and Pranoy Roy.

    Two Parts

Caste issue cannot be wished away. Unfortunately we are riding the tiger cannot get off it. Only way is it has no economic importance. Already we are seeing a lot of intercaste marriages and welfare movements. It will be wishful thinking if you feel that the SC/ST will leave their priveleges whether it is really working or not. 3Rs rice is something I never understood, even as NREGA is supposed to give 100 Rs per person per day. But anyway this makes the poor happy enough to vote so god bless them.

I have seen a lot of english channel bashing regularily happenning. I share the anger against the channels, but not the message of not going to them.

All said and done the news is a great media to project your party vision and mission statements to the nation, especially the urban(english).

But what should be done, get 30 odd leaders trained through a professional organisation on how to speak in these channels diplomatically. Except a few I dont see many really good speakers.
Jaitely, Sushma, Ravi shankar, Rudy a few cropping in my mind.
Let us spend 1-2 crores get these leaders trained on how to handle television crew. I am sure these tv’s cant isolate BJP at any cost. I have seen some of our leaders really acting odd in front of the channels.

I know these channels have a tunnel to information from Congress on Government matters. So the Congress gets all the prime time, and we/left are used for bashing. End Result they build the heroes of the jokers in Congress and our intellectuals are left sulking.

Has any one seen Mani Shanker Aiyer speak sense in the channels, but he is approached again and again and given prime time slot. Has anyone felt Kapil speaks truth when he talks for Congress, but he is part of all discussions when Congress is on a back foot.

Our strategy should be planned accordingly. I will write some more next time. Open for criticism

First time in long past I saw Budget discussion today with No BJP representative this is good. Let there be couple of congress instead of One congress and BJP spokesperson. I saw today they had couple of industries folks. More such repeats should be there. I am sure if this repeats for 1 year people will understand automatically. BJP rather spend their energy in states like Tamil nadu, Andhra, kerala and west bengal.

  11. skg on July 9th, 2009 6:18 am

Yes, BJP should spend more time and resources in the southern states like T.N, A.P, Kerala and W.B and N.E states. Their presence is some how not extending beyond the Vindhya mountains except their presence in Karnataka.

  12. skg on July 9th, 2009 6:20 am

Kapil Sibal has gotten away with some lies and misleading Indian Public.

  13. skg on July 9th, 2009 6:21 am

BJP should stay away from Media as much as possible. Only trained leaders who have the skills and courage to answer and respond to the Media’s questions should face them. Kohli and Jaitley are the only people who faced Media with some courage and grace.

Today, the online newspaper TribuneIndia carried two articles about BJP. This is carried by one Journalist Faraz Ahmad/Tribune News Service. This journalist seems to be a muslim. Both articles carried by him are against BJP. He has written some articles before in this newspaper and all of them are negative about BJP. Don’t know why he keeps on writing negative about BJP all the times . This sort of negative propaganda is definitely hurting BJP. BJP needs to address this issue immediately. He says there are no leaders in BJP which know about the economic issues in the Budget and can very intellectually analyze the Budget and present them. Big B.S from this journalist.
